The genius of Vittorio Jano's design combined with the grit, determination and driving brilliance of Tazio Nuvolari produced one of the most spectacular and memorable GPs ever. Totally outclassed by the much more powerful and technically advanced Mercedes and Auto Unions, both racing on home soil and with full backing from the Nazis, the twisting turns of the Nürburgring's Nordschleife conspired to deliver a result as heroic as it was unexpected.
