1961 'sharknose' Ferrari 156
Having suffered the indignity of being beaten by those British 'garagistes' with their small nimble mid engined layout, the Scuderia finally (probably reluctantly) followed suit. The solution was to install the 1.5 litre V6 Dino engine behind the driver in a light torpedo shaped chassis skinned in a lightweight body featuring two distinctive 'nostril' intakes in the nose. This earned the car the nickname 'sharknose'.
They began the season with the 65º Dino engine, but introduced a smoother more powerful 120º version as the season progressed. Between the two variants, Ferrari won the 1961 Constructors Championship with victories in Holland, Belgium, France, Britain and Italy. Phil Hill took the drivers' crown becoming America's first World Champion.
