1936 Bugatti type 57SC Atlantic no.3 'Holzschuh'
This was the third production Atlantic (of only 4 ever built) and was delivered to Parisian businessman Jacques Holzschuh in October 1936. Originally delivered with bodywork matching the other three Atlantics, chassis no. 57473 received significant styling changes - somewhere between 1939 and 1941. The author of this coachwork is believed to be Italian designer Figoni.
This uniquely bodied car was subsequently sold several times before being purchased in 1952 by Bugatti enthusiast René Chatard, who had the car painted light blue/grey. Sadly Chatard and a female companion were killed in the car when it was hit by a train in France, 1955.
The car was all but destroyed but the remains were eventually acquired by a French collector who had the car rebuilt, the project being completed by 1977. Very little of the original car survived, but this Atlantic was subsequently rebuilt again in the US - to the same Chatard specification. This version of the car still exists today.
