1929 Bugatti 35B

After its inauspicious debut at Lyons in 1924, the type 35 Bugatti was developed into a formidable, versatile racing machine with constant evolutions and updates. The car shown here is the winner of the very first Monaco Grand Prix in 1929.

The type 35B still used the straight-8 engine, but enlarged to 2.3 litres, delivering 138 bhp and was now supercharged making it a competitive racing car even after 5 years of service.

For the inaugural race around the Principality, Bugatti entered just one factory car – painted British racing green in honour of the English driver William Grover-Williams.
